Pregnancy Massage in Perth
Pregnancy shifts your body’s centre of gravity, loosens ligaments, and adds load to areas that weren’t built to carry it long-term. Lower back and hip pain, rib tightness, swollen legs and feet, disrupted sleep – these are common, but that doesn’t mean they have to be endured.
Adapted Massage for Each Stage of Pregnancy
Pregnancy massage uses the same core soft tissue techniques as remedial massage – including Swedish, deep tissue, and gentle trigger point therapy – adapted for positioning, pressure, and the physiological changes specific to each trimester.
Sessions at Complete Care Health run from 30 to 90 minutes depending on your needs and how far along you are. We recommend 60 minutes for a first appointment, which allows time for a full health history and consultation before care begins.
Pregnancy massage is appropriate at any stage provided there are no underlying medical concerns, and we always recommend confirming with your GP or obstetrician beforehand if you have any conditions that may require extra consideration.
What Pregnancy Massage May Help With
The physical demands of pregnancy vary from person to person and trimester to trimester. Massage is commonly sought for:
- Lower back pain and pelvic girdle discomfort
- Hip tightness and sciatic nerve irritation
- Neck and upper back tension from postural changes
- Swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet
- Rib and thoracic tightness as the uterus grows
- Sleep disruption linked to discomfort and difficulty finding a comfortable position
- General stress and difficulty relaxing
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your therapist will take a health history at the start of your first visit, including any conditions, medications, or pregnancy-related concerns that may affect how the session is approached. Positioning is adjusted throughout to keep you comfortable. Most women are positioned side-lying with pillow support; your therapist will guide you through any changes as needed.
Pressure and technique are adjusted to suit your stage of pregnancy and your feedback during the session. If anything feels uncomfortable at any point, let your therapist know and they will adapt accordingly.
A Practical Note on Safety
Certain presentations, including high-risk pregnancies, recent miscarriage, or conditions such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, require additional consideration before proceeding. Your therapist will review these during your initial consultation. If in any doubt, please check with your treating doctor first.
