Clinical Pilates in Perth

Who, why and what is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates developed ‘Pilates’ in the early 20th Century as a functional movement training method, to help rehabilitate injured soldier’s in WWI.

Pilates is based on quality of movement, rather than quantity of movement, emphasising technique and control. It assists in rehabilitation, postural alignment and endurance. It gives a whole body, low impact workout which can improve activation and recruitment of the body’s muscular support system, its functions and movements by re-educating the body.

What does it do?

In a nutshell, the focal point of Pilates is the activation, development and stabilisation of the core muscles. It also teaches correct movement patterns, improves muscle tone and builds the body’s functional endurance. It allows for the integration of muscle groups to develop rather than strengthening isolated muscle areas.

Exercising with Pilates aims to promote muscle balance, co-ordination, awareness, flexibility, better breathing techniques and efficiency of movement.

Who can do it?

Specially designed Pilates equipment can benefit all fitness levels from beginners to advanced, and can be specifically tailored to individual requirements. Anyone can do Pilates including seniors, athletes, the physically inactive, and those at various stages of rehab or pregnancy.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of regular attendance may help improve posture, develop stronger and leaner muscles, reduce tension, fatigue and stress, and give an overall sense of well-being and balance.
